York Region, is a regional municipality in south-central Ontario, Canada, between Lake Simcoe and Toronto. It replaced the former York County in 1971. The 2006 census population was 892,712, making it more populous than all of Northern Ontario. It is the fastest growing census division in Canada, expected to surpass 1.5 million residents by 2020.The entire region is part of the Greater Toronto Area.
York Region covers 1,776 square kilometres from Lake Simcoe in the north to the city of Toronto in the south. Its eastern border is shared with Durham Region, to the west is Peel Region, and Simcoe County is to the northwest.

Georgina offers a number of year-round activities in a variety of recreational facilities including our many impressive public parks, beaches, forested areas, conservation areas, the Duclos Point Nature Reserve, Sibbald Point Provincial Park, Keswick Marsh Fish and Bird Sanctuary, museums, craft and music festivals, the historic Red Barn Theatre and the Stephen Leacock Theatre.
Georgina's population incresed by 12,000 from 1986-1996. The growth could be attributed to the fact that cost of development is conciderably cheapter then that of the more southern comunities in York Region, this has made the town more attractive for builders and homeowners alike.
